Herbert Appoints Judge Petersen to Utah Supreme Court

The Salt Lake Tribune is reporting that Utah Governor Gary Herbert has appointed Judge Paige Petersen to take retiring Justice Christine Durham's seat on the Utah Supreme Court. The Utah Senate now has 60 days under Utah law to confirm the appointment by majority vote.

The Governor selected Judge Petersen from a list of seven names nominated for consideration by the Judicial Nominating Commission. Petersen attended the College of Eastern Utah in Price and the University of Utah, and took her JD from Yale Law School in 1999. She clerked in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, practiced civil law in New York City, and was an Assistant US Attorney in the Eastern District of New York and in Utah. She successfully prosecuted war crimes at the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague, Netherlands. Governor Herbert appointed her to the Third District Court in 2015.
